Stadshart Almere Almere
Stadshart Almere is the development of Almere's new city centre — an ambitious inner-city project that gave a young city a proper heart. The masterplan, designed by Rem Koolhaas (OMA), combines housing, retail, leisure and parking into a single coherent urban fabric.
The programme includes 85,000 m² of retail and hospitality, 600 homes, 20,000 m² of leisure and hotel facilities and 2,500 parking spaces. The result is a lively, high-traffic centre that serves both Almere itself and the wider region.
Stadshart Almere is a public-private partnership between the municipality of Almere, Blauwhoed and MAB. On behalf of MAB, we delivered the development and execution of the commercial programme.
The architecture is the work of an exceptionally strong team of international and Dutch practices, including OMA, Christian de Portzamparc, Will Alsop, René van Zuuk, Claus en Kaan and MVSA. The layering and architectural richness give Stadshart a distinct identity of its own.
